In the years between 2010 and 2012 members of Hazina Sacco had a convention in which they were wondering why other Sacco’s were enabling their members to purchase plots while their own Sacco was not doing anything about it. This informed a discussion in the Annual Delegates Meeting of 2012 in which the board was mandated to come up with a vessel that can enable members satisfy this need without stepping on the SASRA regulations and in the year 2013. Hazina Housing Cooperative Society Limited was born with its first Directors being:

Hazina Housing Cooperative Society Ltd had an identified written purpose, which is to acquire and relinquish lands, buildings and rights over land and buildings by purchase, lease or any other means as may be necessary as well as providing members a living accommodation and livelihood within the areas of its operation at a fair and reasonable and affordable price together with such ancillary services as roads, drainage, water and electricity. This purpose has been enshrined in both the vision which is to be the leading society in offering competitive and affordable land and housing ownership solutions and the mission statement which is to provide quality and efficient land housing products and services through effective mobilization and prudent administration if resources for Socioeconomic advancement of members.
The main objectives of Hazina Housing Cooperative Society Ltd are:-
- Acquire and relinquish lands, buildings and rights over land and buildings by purchase, lease or any other means as may be necessary.
- To provide for its members living accommodation and livelihood within the area of its operation at a fair and reasonable price together with such ancillary services as roads, drainage, water and electricity.
Since its inception in 2013, the society has had an opportunity to initiate seven projects benefiting estimated no of 660 Members.
- Lukenya I had 125 plots, 20 quarter (1/4) acre plots, 20 half (1/2) acre plots, 82 eighths (1/8) acre plots taken up by 122 members while 3 were reserved for the Society.
- Kisaju had 110 plots – 24 quarter (1/4) acre plots, 82 eighth (1/8) acre plots taken up by 106 members, while 4 were reserved for the Society
- Lukenya II had 70 eighth (1/8) acre plots – all taken up by 70 members.
- Kangundo I had 18 (1/4) acre plots -57 eighth (1/8) acre pots which was taken up by 75 members
- Kangundo II had 139 plots- 9 quarter (1/4) acre plots, 1 half (1/2) acre plots and 127 eighths (1/8), taken up by 137 members while 2 were reserved for the Society.
- Kangundo III had 153 eighth (1/8) acre plots – taken up by 146 members, 5 plots were reserved for the Society while 2 plots are available for sale.
- Joska Project has 128 (1/8) acre plots- taken up by 80 members, 5 have been reserved for the Society while 43 plots are available for sale.
The first project was a 20 acre land in Lukenya near Daystar University with a second project being 20 acres at Kisaju along Isinya Kajiado road. The Society’s third project was a 10 acre land at Lukenya adjacent to the first project while the fourth project was a 10 acre land a long Nimrod road off Kangundo road. The fifth project took the Society back to Kangundo road, a 22 acre land at Malaa with the sixth project being a 20 acre land along Nimrod road two kilometers after the fourth project. Once again the Society went back to Kangundo road for another 17 acres of land at Joska trading center which is our current project.
The Society continues to seek for opportunities which can enable members achieve the purpose for which it was formed and it is now keen on moving out of Nairobi metropolitan in order to serve its members throughout the country. It is also keen on making sure that after members acquire the plots they also have the means to construct affordable houses in which they live and avoid paying rent.
